Katcando Jewelry is created
in Cottage Grove, WI in Kathy's home studio. Each piece
she creates is made of sterling silver and a variety of "earthy" materials
handpicked for texture and color. Oftentimes natural materials
like Michigan river stones, ancient African tribal beads
or found objects are highlighted in her work. Each item
is one of a kind and handcrafted by Kathy herself with
meticulous attention to detail and construction.
Kathy has always had a passion for
art and nature so it wasn't long before she married the two
in her jewelry designs. She is an ongoing student of the
jewelry arts and continues to learn fresh ideas and techniques
through university courses, artist workshops and retreats. She
has dabbled in the arts all her life, from pottery to paint.
And was an art student at the Ohio State University until
her father begged her to change majors.... "you know,
you can't make any money being an artist". So
with a Communications degree, she is now "communicating" through
her art in a brand new way.
Kathy started Katcando Jewelry
in 2001 and shortly thereafter, devoted herself full-time
to her designs. Originally satisfied
with the art show circuit,
Kathy is now expanding into the wholesale marketplace.
Press
Kathy was recently featured on the
HGTV show “That’s Clever” where she demonstrated
her original design entitled, “A
Vintage Tin Bracelet”.
This bracelet incorporated Kathy’s love of antiques
into her jewelry design. This finished red tin
bracelet
can be seen on Kathy’s bracelet page.
